National Arboretum

Last Sunday was beautiful out so Mike and I (and Princess Zoe) decided to take advantage of the weather and take our first trip to the National Arboretum. We've driven by the NY Ave. entrance probably a hundred times and never thought seriously about going in. It's in a kind of weird part of town, and you have to drive to get there and it doesn't look like much from the road. And I was picturing it just being a field of trees. Ha!

It was actually really awesome and free! and I am kicking myself for not going sooner. The place is huge and there are a lot of different sections which all feel really different. We went to the Asian gardens which look down onto the Potomac.

We also went to the Capitol columns. Weird right? These are old columns from the Capital that are just sitting in the middle of the Arboretum. Did anyone know these were here?

Zoe had so much fun she decided to rub her face in the grass to celebrate. Actually captain anxiety here is nervous anywhere new but I think with a little life coaching and a few more trips she will learn to love the arboretum!

  1. I've always wondered what was back there. Thanks for going the leg work! Do you think it would be a good place to go on bikes too?

  2. Yes! We saw lots of bikers. It would probably just be a pain biking out there. We're thinking of driving out with our bikes on a bike rack.
